Field notes
Bringing retail visits onto a digital board
How loyalty scans and store diaries can sit beside paid channels without pretending every footfall is a tracked click.
Retail marketing leads often ask for store visits on the same multi-channel attribution dashboard as Meta and Google. The honest answer: you can join them, but you must label confidence.
Use events you already trust
Loyalty scans, appointment bookings, or till receipts tied to a known customer beat anonymous door counts. Door counts can appear as context charts; they should not silently absorb digital credit.
Document latency
Store files often arrive days after the visit. The glossary should state the lag so leadership does not panic when Monday’s board misses Sunday’s market.
Keep a mild gap visible
If organic social rarely carries identifiers into the store, say so on the board. Hiding the gap creates false precision; showing it invites better tagging next quarter.
